ASUS moving on to 11.6" netbooks

The line between netbooks and notebooks continues to blur as CNet's Crave blog discusses the latest news out of computer-motherland Taiwan (see digitimes.com) that ASUS is indeed boldy going with 11.6" netbooks. Yep, they started as little things, then went to 9-inch displays, then 10-inch and now, it's 12-inches here we come.

And as we mentioned three days ago, the 12-inch affordable notebooks and the new netbooks are on a collision course. Regular laptopers may recall that once upon a time it was considered a big luxury to have a small yet powerful (read: usable) portable computer. And still, just months ago, the likes of the cutesy Dells, MacBooks and such were all in the four figures.

But out came the netbooks, and upwards they reached and reached, and that forced the traditional notebooks to reach down, and that is what gave us the affordabe (sub-$1000) 13-inch and 12-inch notebooks.

But the bottom line is great, because it means we, the consumers and gadget geeks, have more choice and more options. And competition is usually a good thing, it will mean more bang for our buck!
